With spring finally making it way in, it’s time to thank our cars for their hard work through what was an exceptionally cold winter. This week we’ll go over some spring maintenance tips to help make sure your car continues to run well for you. First we will go over some tips that you can do yourself, and then some that will take a skilled technician to ensure there are no issues.

  1. Tire Pressure: Cold weather can reduce the amount of air you have in your tires so it’s important to check your air pressure and refill the tires based on your cars recommended level.
  2. Fluid Levels: Chances are that many of your fluid levels became depleted after the long winter so it’s important to check the levels of your transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, and windshield wiper fluid to ensure they are sit at the recommended levels.
  3. Windshield Wipers: The best time to replace your wipers is early spring and then again early fall, so that they are fresh for the weather change.
  4. Belts and hoses:  Check the belts and hoses for any cracks or breaks that may have been caused from the cold weather and have them replaced as necessary.
  5. Battery and Wires:  With the cold weather these parts have to work harder in order to give that spark to your engine to run, so it’s important to test the battery for its charge level and the wires for any breaks.
  6. Brakes:  This item would be best examined by a skilled technician to check your brake pads, hoses and brake lines.
  7. Suspension and Alignment: With all the potholes created from the winter, it’s a good idea to have your suspension and alignment checked for wear and leaks that could lead to bigger problems.
