The Mazda Racing Accelerates Creative Education (R.A.C.E.) program is in the middle of its victory lap right now, after seeing great success at Tampa’s Middleton High School last week. Over 300 students participated in the R.A.C.E. program, which aims to inspire interest in the real-world fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), fields that have endless applications across the automotive industry. These students have the potential to become the next generation of automotive creative geniuses, and they will doubtless be in great demand: as automobiles become increasingly technologically advanced, demand for workers skilled in these areas also increases.

“The students were thrilled with the presentations and impressed by the number and diversity of STEM-related career opportunities in the field of motorsports,” said Kim Moore, the Assistant Principal of Magnet Curriculum at Middleton High School. “I’m confident that after seeing Mazda’s R.A.C.E. program, many students left with an even greater respect and enthusiasm for the STEM disciplines.” Moore’s own enthusiasm was certainly evident; she was decked ou in a full racing suit for the event.

At Parks Mazda, we mostly see the finished result of all this STEM research, design, and development in the form of the world-class vehicles prominently displayed in our showrooms and across our inventory. But we’re always mindful of the incredible detail, intricate hard work, and creative genius that goes into sculpting a machine as beautiful as the MX-5 Miata. So, if you’re in the next generation of STEM professionals, we welcome you and wish you the best of luck!
