28The Mazda MX-5 was recently named the 2016 World Car Design of the Year, honoring this model’s impressive styling. First established by World Car Awards in 2006, this prestigious award recognizes breakthroughs in automotive design and performance. With a completely new look, it’s no surprise the MX-5 won this year.
According to Mazda, the MX-5 World Car Design of the Year award was given largely for this model’s revolutionary KODO, or Soul of Motion, design. Launched globally in 2015, this design program focuses on human-centric design and fun-to-drive feel. This includes a more athletic stance, sports seating, and a bold front fascia.
“What a wonderful honor, to have the Mazda MX-5 named World Car Design of the Year,” said Masahiro Moro, President and CEO, Mazda North American Operations. “As our iconic MX-5 roadster approaches one-million units of production, this award is proof that it is as young, vibrant, fun and relevant as ever.”
Believe it or not this is the 30th award for the new 2016 Mazda MX-5, including the 2015-2016 Car of the Year Japan and 2016 UK Car of the Year awards. In addition to its design, the MX-5 also features advanced SKYACTIV technologies, increasing performance and efficiency. Making the MX-5 the perfect vehicle all around. Come on, what’s not to like about this new model?
