The Benefits of Ride Sharing: Tips for Carpooling

With rising fuel costs, carpooling is becoming a great way to save big when it comes to your commute. Plus, carpooling reduces greenhouse emissions and introduces you to new people. That’s why we’ve put together a list of tips for carpooling.

According to Drive Less Save More, carpooling can save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars in gas over a year. It also reduces stress, and allows you to relax when it is not your time to drive. It gives families some slack, allowing them to cut back to one car, or no cars. Finally, carpooling builds friendships and strengthens communities, all while eliminating pollution.

Tips for Carpooling

Always establish ground rules when carpooling, and make everyone sign and agree to them. This includes meeting times, food and smoking rules, as well as radio and A/C heating rules. Most carpools let the driver decide, so rules may vary. Just make sure you don’t get into any awkward power struggle scenarios.

Be accommodating. Some individuals may need to drive a little further or a little less. Being flexible is the key to a successful carpool. Make everyone feel at home, and try to understand everyone’s perspective.

Finally, be friendly! Carpooling is a great way to get to know fellow coworkers or neighbors. In addition to making gridlock more enjoyable, carpooling is a great way to meet people.

When you’re wondering how to spice up your morning and even drives, this list should make it a bit easier.

Top Five Road Trip Movies

To help inspire you in these dark and cold winter months, we’ve put together our list of the top five road trip movies.

top five road trip movies

# 1 – Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)

This movie reads more like a guide of what not to do on a road trip. But most importantly, it can remind us that the only way to have a successful trip is to have a sense of humor. Oh, and to never drive the wrong way on an interstate.

# 2 – Thelma And Louise (1991)

It’s somewhat unfortunate that this film only seems to be remembered for its very tragic and now iconic ending. Because otherwise, this road trip movie reveals what a truly meaningful road trip is—a journey within.

# 3 – Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

The Faris family is about the most dysfunctional family as we’ve ever seen onscreen. Their road trip sees them ultimately grow closer as a whole.

# 4 – Tommy Boy (1995)

A true comedy of errors, this movie sees Chris Farley and David Spade having misadventure after misadventure. The lesson we can take away is that they never give up and keep burning miles.

# 5 – Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)

Two best friends take a transformational trip across the gorgeous Mexican countryside. Reminding us that every good trip is very much about the scenery.

If there’s any you feel deserve to be in the top 5 and aren’t, list them below!
